doet_
I am a 28-year-old designer based in Brussels, with prior training as an engineer-architect at the University of Ghent. As a designer, I am constantly balancing on the border between art and science, where I feel most comfortable. This translates into my interest in both design and structure.
After my internship in architecture and urban planning, I chose to specialize in furniture design at Thomas More (VOMO) in Mechelen. In addition, I have been designing furniture for some time, under the name doet_. My style is strongly influenced by architecture and the built world, where I look for simplicity, materiality and structure. My designs often incorporate reused and found elements, mixed with a dose of flexibility and modularity.
doet_ refers to both French "doute" and Dutch "doen". Designing is a constant back and forth between thinking and doing, questioning and executing. For me, meaningful design only really emerges from a thorough knowledge of design theory and culture and a critical reflection on it, combined with a strong executive mindset and a dose of technical knowledge.
