Tom De Koninck is a circular designer with a background in furniture and architectural design, based in Aalst and Antwerp. He recently obtained a degree in furniture design (VOMO) in Mechelen, after studying to become a Civil Engineer Architect at Ghent University. He currently works part-time at Architectenbureau HOP in Antwerp, specialising in nature-inclusive building. He has also founded his own furniture business, ROVER, in which he integrates local industrial waste streams into interior designs.
ROVER is a project in which residual flows from local industries are inventoried and reused in a furniture production. The method developed in the project reverses the design process. Instead of starting with an idea and then designing and materialising, this project starts from what there is. In this way, it aims to change the perception of waste streams and add a new function to the life cycle of materials.
