Livable Platform was challenged by Volmaakt to collaborate with VELO vzw (and partners) to find a new purpose for surplus bicycles and parts. Through a robust exploratory phase in the design process, a playful nod to the world of cycling emerged. The result utilizes the versatility and presence of curved metal tube structures, drawing inspiration from handlebar connections. While everyone has held these materials in their hands before, a new context, interpretation, and orientation lead to a surprising outcome. The ‘Curve’ lamp shines a light on the cycling culture of Leuven, Belgium. The subtle variations and fluid forms provide a soft, artisanal touch with an industrial character.
